The overall judgement of students rates Jacobs University among the universities with top study conditions in the field of electrical engineering and computer sciences. Also laboratory equipment as well as mentoring and supervision were rated in the top category. The only other university to reach top ratings in theses three categories among the 36 universities included in the ranking was the University of Karlsruhe. Jacobs University offers in total five study programs, three undergraduate and two graduate programs, in the field electrical engineering and computer science with a special emphasis artificial intelligence, communication and sensor technology, and robotics.

Prof. Dr. Bernhard Kramer, Dean of the School of Engineering and Science, was very satisfied by the results: "I am delighted, that for the first time Jacobs University has been rated on the basis of reliable data in the field of electrical engineering and computer sciences, thereby reaching top results on the first go. It is a great validation of our overall concepts after the first years of designing and building our young university.”

The CHE (Center für Hochschulentwicklung, Center for Higher Education Development) has been ranking study programs yearly since 1998 and by now is the largest and most detailed ranking in German-speaking Europe, also including some universities in Austria and Switzerland. It includes facts about research, equipment, education, and the opinion of more than 300.000 students as well as the judgement of professors on the scientific reputation of the departments in the rated fields. The 30 fields of study that are examined by the CHE are not rated all at once every year but time-shifted every three years.
